Serenity Rehab on the island of Samui

Serenity Rehab Thailand provided addiction treatment on the Island of Samui from 2014-2015. In 2016 we moved to our new Chiang Rai Treatment Center. Serenity Rehab no longer offers addiction treatment on Samui.

History of Serenity Rehab on Samui (2014 - 2015)

The island of Koh Samui is a part of our history and we have had many successes there. We also learned a lot about the environment that is best for treating substance addiction. We found that Samui was not an ideal place, as it is too much of the old, addictive and substance abuse environment.

Samui is indeed a beautiful location with a variety of excursion options. However, we found many of our clients struggled in being surrounded by such a party scene, especially so early in recovery. We also found that our costs were too high for many who could not afford, but needed and wanted to participate in our addiction treatment programs.

Development Plans and a new Treatment Center

Learning from our history treating substance addiction on the Island of Samui, we began to plan and develop a new treatment center. We wanted to stay in Thailand, as that provides significant cost advantages, and it is where we call home. But we needed something more remote, yet convenient to international airports and medical facilities.

Serenity Rehab in Chiang Rai (2016 - Present)

We found a great location in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand. While Chiang Mai gets all the press -- and is a world-class tourist destination -- this makes it less attractive to us. We need to offer our clients a safe, secure location, conducive to building a strong foundation for their sobriety, and far removed from active party scenes. Also, Chiang Rai provides a cost advantage, furthering our core mission, to make our treatment programs accessible to everyone who wants it.

Chiang Rai is approximately 200 km / 3 hours by car or bus from Chiang Mai, but more importantly has its own International Airport, with dozens of flights to and from Bangkok every day. It turns out that flights to Chiang Rai are only 15 minutes longer (80 minutes instead of 65 minutes) than flights to Samui -- and there are more flights as well.

Chiang Rai International Airport (CEI)

Chiang Rai International Airport has flights from both Bangkok airports: Don Muang International (DMK) and Suvarnabhumi International (BKK). Airlines servicing Chiang Rai International Airport include Bangkok Airways, China Eastern Airlines, Nok Air, Thai Air Asia, Thai Lion Air and Thai Smile.

Chiang Rai Medical Facilities

Chiang Rai has an excellent private, full-service hospital: Kasemrad Sriburin Hospital. Kasemrad offers emergency, psychiatric, detoxification, and a variety of other inpatient and outpatient specialties. The proximity of excellent medical care was an important determining factor in choosing Chiang Rai as the location for our new treatment center.
