The Palmerston Farm is a residential rehabilitation facility set in Perth's southern suburbs for men and women with drug or alcohol use problems.

It involves:

  • active involvement in the therapeutic community
  • self-management and social skills training
  • horticulture and nursery work, and other vocational training
  • counselling and group therapy
  • sport and recreational activities
  • art and craft activities

Cyrenian House Northbridge (08) 9328 9200 Cyrenian House is a not-for-profit non-government organisation that provides a wide range of programs, both residential and non-residential, for people with drug and alcohol problems.

Residential Program

The organisations residential program is for a minimum of 12 weeks with the average stay being 6 - 12 months.

Set in a therapeutic community environment, the program includes:

  • education groups
  • counselling
  • therapeutic group work
  • art activities
  • recreation activities
  • community responsibilities

The organisations non-residential services include:

  • a voluntary program for people seeking treatment for difficulties associated with their drug or alcohol use use, and any other compulsive behavior
  • a family program to promote awareness, improve communication and encourage positive relationships within families affected by drug or alcohol use
  • a conditional program for people seeking treatment for their drug or alcohol use as a result of contact with the courts, employers, Department of Correctives Services and Department of Child Protection.

Saranna Program (Cyrenian House) Perth 9328 9200 The Saranna Program is a residential treatment program for women affected by drug and alcohol issues, who have dependent children.

Part of Cyrenian House's therapeutic community, participants and their children live in self-contained cottages while engaging in a daily program of recovery that includes:

  • educations groups
  • counselling
  • therapeutic group work
  • art and recreation activities to promote create and holistic development.

Teen Challenge - Western Australia Esperance +61 8 9246 5777

Established to provide a residential rehabilitation service, Teen Challenge is for young men and women older than 16 years.

The service operates a residential rehabilitation and detox program called Grace Academy, which is located near the Great Southern town of Esperance.

Based on Christian principles, the program offers academic and vocational training, equipping participants to return to family and society as a responsible citizen. TAFE courses are also part of the program.

Teen Challenge also offers school-based prevention programs, parent programs and education and training activities.

Rosella House Geraldton 08 9921 7409

Rosella House is a 13 week residential rehabilitation program provided by Hope Community Services, a non-denominational Christian organisation.

Set in a heritage-listed building in Geraldton, Rosella House also offers a transitional housing program to assist clients who've completed the rehabilitation program and are re-entering the community.

Referrals to Rosella House can be arranged through Hope Community Services' Armadale office in Perth, drug and alcohol agencies, welfare agencies, GPs and private counsellors.

The Salvation Army Bridge Program Highgate 08 9227 8086 The Salvation Army Bridge Program operates a sobering up centre and detoxification service in the inner-city suburb of Highgate.

The detoxification service provides a one week residential stay and operates to a supportive care model based on non-medical or low-medical interventions. Complex withdrawal cases, or those with severe symptoms are referred to medical services.

Both services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to drug and alcohol users aged 18 years and older. The sobering up service also accepts 15-18 year olds.

Drug and Alcohol Youth Service DAYS Program Perth & Carlisle (08) 9222 6300

Based in East Perth, the Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) is a free and confidential service which offers treatment and support to young people experiencing drug and alcohol related problems.

DAYS is a partnership between the Drug and Alcohol Office and Mission Australia, providing inpatient withdrawal and respite services, inpatient residential rehabilitation service and outpatient counselling and support, psychotherapy and medical assessment to young people aged between 12 and 18 years of age (with some flexibility up to the age of 21 for people who are experiencing significantly problematic drug use).

Staffed by doctors, nurses, clinical psychologists, drug and alcohol workers, and Aboriginal and youth mentors the service also gives young people access to educational, recreational and exercise programs, and offers complementary therapies such as art, music and drama therapy.

Family interaction is encouraged, with families and other key people involved through support, information and referral. Both outpatient and withdrawal and respite programs are available from the East Perth site, with a three month residential rehabilitation program offered in Carlisle.

Milliya Rumurra is a non-government residential centre in Broome that provides treatment and rehabilitation to Aboriginal people wishing to address their drug and alcohol use.

The centre's rehabilitation program is for a minimum of 12 weeks with the possibility of extension. A sobering-up shelter is also available.

Ngnowar Aerwah Aboriginal Corporation Wyndham 08 9161 1806 The Ngnowar Aerwah Aboriginal Corporation in Wyndham provides a 13 week residential rehabilitation program to community members wanting to stop drinking alcohol.

Program participants take part in individual and group counselling, and are provided with information about the problems that dependence on alcohol can cause such as family break-up, low self esteem and other health issues.

Other services provided by the Ngnowar Aerwah Aboriginal Corporation include:

  • sobering-up shelter
  • drug and alcohol counselling
  • counselling for stolen generation issues
  • a young men's group

Goldfields Rehabilitation Services Kalgoorlie 08 9021 4732

Goldfields Rehabilitation Services (Prospect Lodge) is a not-for-profit non-government organisation that provides a wide range of residential programs for up to 10 adults with drug and alcohol problems.

Residential Program:

The organisation's residential program is for 13 weeks with the average stay being 6 - 12 months. The program includes:

  • Addressing training, employment and housing needs
  • counselling
  • therapeutic group work
  • creative therapy including art activities
  • recreation activities
  • work therapy and community responsibilities
  • development of life skills
  • nutrition education
