Are you looking for an outpatient drug rehab for alcohol or drug abuse in Asia or Africa?
Outpatient Drug Rehab
I was recently contacted by a gentleman looking for an outpatient drug rehab for his drinking. He was hoping to find one in Thailand and unfortunately there presently isn't one. I do know of one in Makati, Philippines, as well as one has recently opened in Hong Kong. In this persons case due to his location and requirements I recommended a program in Mauritius that would suit his requirements.
This gentleman had been to a few rehabs previously over the years and did not want the strict regiment of an inpatient program. The rehab in Mauritius is able to accommodate people with different needs due to the fact that they design each program for the individual. They did insist that he stays at the center, however providing he was willing to submit to random testing he was free to come and go as he pleased outside of program hours.
*Note for disclosure: I work directly with the program in Mauritius.
For some people there can be a considerable benefit to an outpatient drug rehab and in many cases it is the only option when someone can not take a month or more away from their lives to attend a full inpatient program, or like in the case of this gentleman not willing to deal with the restrictions that come with a residential rehab.
Outpatient Drug Rehab can be just as effective as a residential program and in some cases, better due to often times the longer time frame that to program is possible for people. The programs also are generally a considerable amount cheaper with the same amount of therapy and counselling. We don't generally think of traveling for an outpatient drug rehab however and it is more often then not undertaken locally.
The program in Mauritius is a specifically designed treatment program made for each individual. The program in Makati, Philippines, is more of a set program and takes on regular groups of clients.
So whats the difference between an outpatient drug rehab and a residential program?
As simple as we can say it, in a residential program you live there for the term of your treatment program and an outpatient you show up, do the program and go home at the end of the day, or do the program after work or school.
Benefits of Outpatent Drug Rehab Programs
- Work around your schedule
- Can be close to home
- Often times they are considerably cheaper
- Are not as restrictive as residential programs
- If you do relapse, less like hood of being discharged from the program
- Can be used as an intensive after care once a residential program has completed
- You don't have to be away from your family for an extended period of time
Disadvantages of Outpatient Drug Rehab Programs
- Not a secure environment
- You are not removed from your triggers and social group
- More temptation to fall into old behaviors
- Less over site during primary care
- More likely hood of early relapse
- Requires a considerable amount more willpower in early stages
Is an Outpatient Drug Rehab Right For You?
An outpatient drug rehab might be right for you if time and financial constraints won't allow you to take 30 to 90 days out of your life to go to a residential program initially. Outpatient programs can also be used as an intensive aftercare program after leaving a residential center. It can be considered for someone who it is their first time in treatment as it might be effective and worth trying. An outpatient drug rehab program is better then no program at all.
